Our story
Acerca de Puerto Rican Festival RVA
Celebrating Our Roots. Educating Our Comunidad. Creating a Legacy.
Richmond · Since 2023
A vision became a gathering place.
Puerto Rican Festival RVA was born from a vision and a realization: Cultura puertorriqueña, history, and heritage were needed here in Richmond, Virginia, and the surrounding communities.
We saw a need for greater cultural education and awareness. Many younger generations were not having enough opportunities to learn about the history, traditions, and roots that shape their Puerto Rican identity.
At the same time, we recognized that many Puerto Rican families living away from the island were missing home — the music, the food, the traditions, the language, the celebrations, and the deep connection to their culture.
In 2023, that vision became a reality with the launch of the first-ever Puerto Rican Festival in Richmond.
What began as a celebration has grown into something much bigger: a place to reconnect with our roots, educate our community, preserve our culture, and create a lasting legacy.
Since our beginning, the festival has continued to grow, with the organization reporting record attendance in 2023, 2024, 2025, and 2026. No attendance totals are published without verified figures.
Education and belonging
Our Cultura. Our History. Our Legacy.
We believe that preserving culture begins with education.
Our festival creates opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to learn about Puerto Rican history and heritage, including our Taíno roots and the many cultural influences — including African and Spanish — that helped shape Puerto Rico.
Through live performances, music, dance, cultural programming, educational experiences, history, food, art, and family-friendly activities, we bring our culture to life in ways that are both joyful and meaningful.
For Puerto Rican families, we hope to create a feeling of home — a place where traditions can be remembered, shared, and celebrated. For younger generations, we want to create opportunities to discover where they come from, understand their history, and take pride in their heritage.

Everyone is welcome
A Celebration for Everyone
While Puerto Rican at heart, Puerto Rican Festival RVA is a celebration for everyone.
We are committed to creating a space where all cultures, backgrounds, and communities are welcomed, embraced, respected, and encouraged to share in the celebration.
We invite everyone to come learn about Cultura puertorriqueña, experience our traditions, celebrate with us, and share in the beauty of their own heritage as well.
When we learn about and honor one another's cultures, we create greater understanding, respect, connection, and unity. Our culture is what brings us together, but our shared humanity is what connects us.
Beyond one day
Creating a Legacy for Future Generations
Our vision goes beyond one festival or one day.
We are building a legacy where future generations know their history, understand their roots, take pride in their heritage, and have a place to celebrate it.
We want the stories, traditions, music, food, art, history, and cultural knowledge of Puerto Rico to continue being shared — not only within our families, but throughout the broader community.
Our goal is to leave something meaningful behind: a legacy of cultural pride, education, inclusion, and connection that continues for generations to come.
